Small Sedan Rules Clarification

Car Eligibility and Classification, 2.1.2 Selected Sedans, in series production before 12/31/72, as recognized by SCCA or FIA. Examples: SCCA A/Sedan through D Sedan, Trans Am, Trans Am 2.5 Litre Challenge, recognized as VRG Class C. Rule 4.9.4 (Tires) Class C: The current SVRA tire rules apply to cars in this class, subject to VRG limitation on slicks.

Small sedans are subject to tire rules of SVRA Group 3, which limits the aspect ratio to 60. However, FIA, Trans Am, and Trans Am 2.5 litre Challenge which raced post 1972, and may be continuation eligible in VRG, are subject to tire rules of SVRA Group 8, which limits aspect ratio to 45. In each instance tread depth is 2/32” minimum. Tread must extend across the entire width of the tire.

Owners of cars in this group, depending on level of preparation, have a choice. Those choosing to run on tires with an aspect ratio of 60, or more, are eligible to run in Class C with small and medium bore production sports cars. Those choosing to run on tires with an aspect ratio of 45, and less than 60, are eligible to run in Class F with big-bore production sports cars and sedans through 1972. Event Chairmen, at their discretion, may move these sedans between these two groups, or combine them in their own group, track time permitting.

Owners of these small sedans are encouraged to participate in the VRG Small Sedan Forum:
